Since the earliest days of civilization, our forefathers have sought to
satisfy the elementary needs of a rural society employing the simple materials
available to them. Among this were animal skins from which they prepared
leather that they exported to the Middle East, Asia Minor and afar along
with franc incense, myrrh and ivory earlier than the days of the legendary
Prester John.
From leather, they made parchments on which they recorded their wisdom.
They kept for us the parchments that were scrolls and those scrolls contained
the secretes of exquisite leather making refined through centuries of
observations, experimentation, trials and proofs.
From those scrolls did we learn the art of creating sendsations in leather
and whatever finesse we possess today, we owe it to those diligent forefathers
of ours and take pride in the skill they devolved upon us as a matter
of heritage. We rightfully claim 3000 years of finesse in leather on the
grounds of these deep roots in a culture that is thousands of years old
which can be proven in the recorded history of ancient civilizations available
in most centers of historical records around the world.
We have not been too selfish to keep this heritage for ourselves as we
have been sharing all we have to the world. Very much the same as we have
given coffee to the world, which is believed to have first grown in the
Ethiopian province of Kaffa, thus the name coffee, where the plant grows
wild to this day, two types of skins in the international market are also
named after two other Ethiopian provinces. Bati Genuine, a type of goat
skin from goats of the Ethiopian province of Bati, some 300 kilo meters
north of Addis Ababa, and Selallie Sheep skins, also another type of skin
that comes from sheep of the Ethiopian province of Selallie stretching
from 30 kilo meters north of Addis Ababa to the gorges of Abai (Blue Nile)
are names used to refer to sovereign standards in the international leather
market.
While this explains some of the qualities of the raw materials we use
to prepare the leather garments we offer, the making is only one of the
skills devolved upon us as a pride through centuries of tradition.
Many share and cherish this pride with us as satisfied customers and
our invitation to you is to join this list of satisfied customers around
the world. Surely you will enjoy choosing GLC as your source of leather
garments and congratulations for that.
